Fungus, rodents found in 233 UP eateries during inspection, 13 Noida licenses at risk
Food safety officials in Uttar Pradesh have launched a statewide enforcement drive against fast-food chains, restaurants and other food establishments, with inspections in Lucknow, Noida and Gorakhpur finding issues including fungal growth, rodent infestation, poor hygiene and expired non-vegetarian food.
According to the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, 152 teams inspected 233 establishments across the three cities. Officials issued 163 improvement notices to establishments where violations were found. Action has also been initiated against outlets where serious food safety violations were detected.
In Noida, the department has begun the process of suspending the licences of 13 food establishments following inspections that found several food safety violations.78 ESTABLISHMENTS INSPECTED IN LUCKNOW
In Lucknow, 52 teams inspected 78 food courts and fast-food establishments, resulting in 42 improvement notices.
Officials found deficiencies related to food storage, hygiene, drainage and the segregation of raw and cooked food at several establishments.
At a Subway outlet at Shalimar Gateway in Alambagh, officials found inadequate drainage and unsatisfactory hygiene and sanitary conditions. The inspection also found rodent infestation and possible food contamination, following which the food business was ordered to stop operations.
At Goli Vada Pav and Ark Baleno, officials found rodents, unhygienic conditions and fungal growth on walls and food items. The department recommended action, including closure of the establishments.
Officials also found fungal growth, rodents, foul odour, gravy contamination and waterlogging at a Bikanervala outlet at Fun Mall. The establishment was closed and its licence was suspended, according to the department.NOIDA KITCHENS FOUND IN POOR CONDITION
In Noida, 57 teams inspected 71 establishments and issued 42 improvement notices.
The inspections found several serious deficiencies, including fungal growth in kitchens, rodent infestation, poor sanitation, expired non-vegetarian food and improper storage.
The department has initiated the process of suspending the licences of 13 establishments, including Moti Mahal Delux, Nihao, Punjabi Dhaba-61, Castle Barbeque, Road House, Paddy Hospitality/Rolling Fresh, The Yellow Chilli, Ministry of Daru, Taste of Delhi and Zaika, Eat Club, Absolute Barbecues, Carnival Food Delight and another Yellow Chilli restaurant.
Officials recorded violations such as food being stored at incorrect temperatures, raw and cooked food kept together, dirty utensils, unhygienic kitchens, inadequate pest-control measures, expired ingredients and improper food storage.84 ESTABLISHMENTS CHECKED IN GORAKHPUR
In Gorakhpur, 43 teams inspected 84 establishments and issued 79 improvement notices.
The department said establishments found violating food safety standards would initially be given time to rectify the deficiencies. Failure to make the required improvements within the stipulated period could result in licence suspension, cancellation and other legal action.
Food safety officials have directed food businesses to maintain proper hygiene, use quality raw materials, store food safely, maintain prescribed temperatures and ensure that valid licences are in place.
