Gaza building collapse kills over 20

A six-story building sheltering displaced people in the Gaza Strip has collapsed, leaving more than 20 people dead and over 100 trapped under the rubble.

Palestinian media have reported that the incident occurred in Gaza City, northern Gaza, on Wednesday. At least 21 people, including eight children, were reportedly killed. The building had sustained damage from the fighting between Israeli forces and the Islamic group Hamas.

In Gaza, many people have been forced to take shelter at buildings already damaged by Israeli attacks after they became homeless in the conflict. The media estimate that there are more than 2,000 buildings at risk of collapse.

Search-and-rescue efforts are underway at the site of collapse where more than 100 people are believed to be trapped under the rubble.

Citing a shortage of heavy machinery needed to remove debris, Hamas is calling for "urgent international action" to facilitate the entry of such equipment into the enclave. The group accuses Israel of restricting shipments.
