The woman, identified by police as Jessica, had arrived in India last September with her daughter. According to the police, she had run out of funds and was unable to return to Germany after her visa expired. After the visa expired, the German woman and her daughter were taken to the 'Gaurvi' centre, where the woman is currently staying.
Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said the woman had entered India last September on a 180-day visa, which has now expired. Authorities have written to officials in Mumbai seeking expedited processing of her visa and travel arrangements so that she can return to Germany.
A letter has also been sent to the German Embassy regarding the matter. Police and the administration are coordinating with the concerned authorities to facilitate the return of the woman and her daughter to Germany.
Preliminary investigations found that the woman had run out of funds, which was why she remained in India after her visa expired. The police are continuing to question her Facebook friend and investigate the circumstances surrounding her stay.
