Giants' John Harbaugh offers simple reason for Week 2 loss: 'Didn't execute' - Giants Wire

The New York Giants entered their Monday night matchup against the Los Angeles Rams brimming with optimism. They left a battered, defeated bunch who realized their arms were too short to box with God.

In a game that saw the Giants squander so many opportunities and come up short in big spots, the national TV audience got an ugly glimpse of who these Giants were, or might still be.

Injuries played an integral part in the 28-6 defeat. Quarterback Jaxson Dart got scissored by two Rams pass rushers in the pocket, bent his knee the wrong way, and limped off the field. Other stars, including left tackle Andrew Thomas, defensive end Brian Burns, and wide receiver Malik Nabers, also got hurt during the game.

In his postgame press conference, head coach John Harbaugh, an eternal optimist, attempted to put lipstick on this pig of an effort.

"The Rams played a great football game and pretty much dominated the game, so I give them all the credit. They played very well, executed on both sides of the ball, and were very efficient," he said. "They made plays down the field. All those things were really good.

"We didn't keep up with that. We didn't do those things ourselves, so we have a lot of work to do. We'll learn a lot from that game. The plan will be for that to help us become the team that we're going to be going forward. We have to get ready in six days for our next game.”

Harbaugh looked as if he came off a 12-hour shift in a coal mine. Sullen, direct, and in no mood for chit-chat.

While the media tried to extract more out of the coach, he reiterated what everyone saw and clarified it in simple terms.

“We didn't execute. We didn't complete passes. We didn't run the ball well. We didn't make plays downfield when we had opportunities, and we just didn't do it. We have to do that to win," he said.

That's basically it. The beat pool has gotten used to sparring with the coaches and players here. Harbaugh does not take the bait. After he finished his statement, he thanked them and quickly bolted. As he said, he has a lot of work to do.
