Global AI infrastructure spending could exceed $31 trillion through 2050, PwC analysts projected, as firms forge ahead with a flurry of data center deals.

US chipmaker Qualcomm on Tuesday announced a massive AI chip deal with Amazon, while TikTok is expanding its data center capacity in Finland as part of an EU-wide, $14 billion initiative.

With data centers likely to become major diplomatic tools, Asia is also ramping up investments: The Philippines is rolling out an AI “master plan” this week, and Japan is putting up another $60 billion to quadruple data center capacity by 2033.

The AI infrastructure boom is unique in that the servers and GPUs need to be switched out regularly, PwC noted, meaning investment is set to accelerate.
