Minister for Social Justice Vanni Arasu on Saturday said that the government would continue its legal battle and stand with the affected people, until they get justice, not merely a verdict.
He made the remarks while addressing the media in Arumugamangalam in Thoothukudi district along with the parents of caste killing victim C. Kavin Selvaganesh, who were protesting in front their house for the past three days condemning the quashing of the final report against the parents of prime accused S. Surjith in the murder case.
Addressing the media, he said Surjith’s father and mother, who were involved in Kavin’s murder are police officers. “Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi had continuously been on the protest front demanding that they be arrested. His mother Krishnakumari was not arrested. We continued to raise the demand, and it was only after this government came to power that she was arrested.
Mr. Arasu said, “Unlike other cases, the government is paying additional attention to this case. The government is firm that those involved in murder should be punished.”
He noted that it was a great shock that they (Surjith’s parents) had been discharged from the chargesheet. Pointing out that Law Minister C. T. R. Nirmal Kumar had said that an appeal would be filed on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government, he said, “We will continue the legal battle. We will stand by the affected people until they get justice.”
He added, “Kavin’s parents have also demanded that senior advocate P.P. Mohan was appointed as the government advocate in the case. They have also informed the Law Minister about this. That will also be implemented.”
Kavin’s mother Tamilselvi said that she considers the Social Justice Minister as her brother. “Since he [Mr. Arasu] gave us an assurance, we have accepted his request and are calling off the protest.”
