Fourteen Premier League players scored for their countries during the September international break, with Manchester City striker Erling Haaland leading the way with three goals for Norway. The Premier League, in a review of the international fixtures published on Tuesday, listed the players who had found the net for their countries during the break. Haaland scored twice in Norway’s 3-2 Nations League victory over Denmark before adding another goal in their 2-1 defeat by Portugal. The 26-year-old now has 65 goals in 57 international appearances, including 22 in the Nations League, making him the competition’s leading scorer since its introduction in 2018. Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres also scored twice for Sweden, finding the net in victories over Romania and Poland. Brentford defender Kayode also scored on his Italy debut in their 4-1 victory over Turkey. Isidor scored Haiti’s winning goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time in a 3-2 CONCACAF Nations League victory over Trinidad and Tobago, having also registered two assists. The Premier League said other players who featured prominently during the international break included Liverpool’s new centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, who kept a clean sheet on his France debut in a 1-0 win over Belgium, while his club team-mate Bradley Barcola played 77 minutes. The league’s review also noted a number of injuries suffered by Premier League players during international duty, including Liverpool’s Isak and Gakpo, Arsenal’s Kai Havertz and Manchester United’s Patrick Dorgu. The extended 16 day international break ends on October 6, with Premier League action resuming on October 10.
