Haryana man loses patience as people snatch food from him during Bihar flood seva
As floods affected lakhs of people in Bihar, a man from Haryana travelled to the state with boxes of fruit for those in need as part of a seva initiative.
However, he was rather distressed when a crowd rushed towards the supplies, climbed over boxes, grabbed handfuls of fruit and ran away.
Sahaj Duggal, president of the NGO Har Maidaan Fateh Society, shared a video of the incident on Instagram, showing the chaotic scenes that unfolded when he and his team arrived with the fruits.
In the video, Sahaj appeared visibly upset as people could be seen running away with fruits piled in their arms. He followed them, repeatedly asking why they were behaving that way and telling them that their actions had caused significant damage to the supplies he had brought for distribution.
He pointed towards an elderly woman who was walking away with fruits in her hands. In fact, he also confronted a group of young boys, who appeared to smile when he questioned them about what they had done.
“Why are you all ruining all the boxes? Are you happy with your actions,” Sahaj repeatedly asked as he pointed towards the people and the scattered boxes.
He then explained his frustration, saying the crowd had taken away the fruits without forming a proper line. The situation, he said, became so chaotic that his daughters, who had accompanied him, were also pushed around by people trying to get to the supplies.
“I have my daughters with me too, and they pushed them around so much just to snatch everything we had bought for them. I am extremely disappointed,” he said in the video.
Sahaj captioned the post with a direct appeal to those he had travelled to help, writing, “I have come from so far, just for you. Why are you doing this to me?”
The video triggered a debate in the comments section, with some viewers saying incidents like this could discourage people from travelling to help communities in need.
Others focused on the fact that some people appeared to ignore Sahaj Duggal's distress, while a few users argued that those involved should not receive help.
Bihar has been grappling with severe flooding since earlier this month, as swollen rivers and heavy rainfall in Nepal’s catchment areas pushed water levels up and inundated several parts of the state.
