At its special event titled "Surprise and Shine," Apple announced the iPhone Duo—its first foldable iPhone model, which has been the subject of various rumors for years. The iPhone Duo features one of the most unique form factors Apple has ever used in its iPhone lineup. In a sense, we can say that the company has crossed a new threshold in terms of design.

When folded, the iPhone Duo offers a compact design—much like the passport-style devices from rival companies. When unfolded, however, it features the largest screen Apple has ever used on an iPhone. The company stated that the inner screen is designed for comfortable use in both portrait and landscape orientations. This translates to more effective use in both daily activities and applications that require heavy processing power.

The phone features a 5.4-inch screen on the outside and a 7.6-inch screen on the inside. Thanks to the large inner screen, a split-screen feature is available that allows users to run two apps simultaneously. Users can also run multiple windows of the same app, such as Safari, side by side.

Apple Pencil support is available on both screens. This marks the first time the company has offered full Apple Pencil support on a phone model. Using the Apple Pencil allows users to take full advantage of the large inner screen, particularly for note-taking, drawing, and other productivity tasks.

Apple is also placing special emphasis on the iPhone Duo’s hinge mechanism. The hinge contains over 100 components, and its specialized torque design ensures the phone closes securely and lies completely flat when opened. A titanium frame is used in the device’s body to increase durability while keeping the weight low.

The goal is for the user interface to remain seamless when switching between screens. Apple states that app layouts and control points will remain consistent so that users won’t have to search for controls again when the screen size changes.

The outer screen can be used in standby mode even when the phone isn’t charging. This allows users to continuously view the time and other information on the screen. On the security front, Touch ID is integrated into the power button on the side of the device. The iPhone Duo can also be unlocked via the Apple Watch.

Apple’s foldable model, the iPhone Duo, comes with the A20 Pro processor as well as the C2 cellular modem. This cellular modem will offer 50% better download performance compared to other models. The processor is also reported to deliver a 35% performance increase compared to the iPhone 17 Pro.

According to Apple’s announcement, the device can provide up to 31 hours of video playback when using only the inner screen and up to 44 hours when using only the outer screen. In a scenario where both screens are used in a balanced manner, up to 24 hours of usage time can be achieved.

On the camera front, the device features a 48-megapixel Fusion ultra-wide-angle main camera and a 12-megapixel 2x optical telephoto camera on the exterior. The main camera supports 4K video recording at 120 FPS. It also supports 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapse recordings.

There is a Center Stage-enabled camera on the front, while the FaceTime camera is located on the inner screen. The inner camera becomes visible only when needed. Apple has also developed camera features specifically for the foldable design. Smart Take checks whether people in the frame are ready before taking a photo. Thanks to the preview on the outer display, higher-resolution selfies can be taken using the phone’s rear cameras.

The iPhone Duo will be available in two color options: Star Color and Night Color. The starting price for the model with 256 GB of storage has been announced as 229,999 TL. Apple will begin accepting pre-orders for the iPhone Duo on October 16.
