Hina Javed's family seeks JIT, alleges interference in murder investigation

The family of digital designer Hina Javed, who was allegedly brutally murdered, expressed a lack of confidence in the ongoing investigation and sent a second letter on Sunday to the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), alleging tampering with evidence and attempts to influence the course of the investigation by the brother of the prime accused. The family also called for the formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to ensure an impartial and transparent investigation into the case. In a three-page letter sent to the NCHR by Hina's brother, Fahad Javed, it was alleged that the brother of prime accused Faisal Asghar was attempting to influence the investigation and tamper with evidence. The letter claimed that evidence had emerged of his continued contact with police and forensic teams. According to the letter, voice notes also emerged as alleged evidence of interference in the investigation. The family urged the NCHR and the federal government to seek a report on the alleged role of the prime accused's brother and ensure a transparent and impartial investigation. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Shoaib Khurram from Lahore, Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera and Operations Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tariq Mehboob also attended the meeting. The family raised its concerns with the police officials, claiming that responsibility for the murder was being shifted from the alleged principal accused to the domestic servant. Javed said he believed that Asghar's brother was playing a key role in attempting to divert the course of the investigation. He further said the family was also in possession of voice notes sent to them by Asghar's brother. The letter further alleged that Asghar's brother was actively in contact with the police and attempting to influence the investigation. The family maintained that, under Section 10 of the Human Rights Act, the NCHR could exercise the powers of a civil court and summon witnesses, evidence and the complete record of the case. The family urged the commission to examine allegations of police bias and collusion with the accused and direct the formation of a JIT to investigate Hina's murder. Bail hearing today Meanwhile, the bail application of Zeeshan Arshad, a domestic servant of the deceased, would be heard on Monday. Arshad had completely denied the allegations against him and the statements attributed to him during the investigation. He maintained that he had no connection with the murder case and did not make any statement to police regarding the killing. It may be recalled that Hina was allegedly brutally murdered at her in-laws' home on August 20, after which her body was tied to the shower in a bathroom in an alleged attempt to portray the incident as suicide.
