A utility has collided with a power pole at Birdwoodton, near Mildura, causing a power outage in the regional city and its surrounds.

Powercor is working to restore power to more than 3,360 impacted homes and businesses.

The power is expected to be restored by 5:30pm.

More than 3,360 homes and businesses are without power around Mildura, in Victoria's north-west, after a car hit a power pole.

Paramedics attended the crash at McEdward Street, Birdwoodton shortly after 6:30am this morning and took one woman to Mildura Hospital.

The collision caused a power surge and set off a number of automatic fire alarms in Mildura and surrounding areas.

Powercor spokesperson Jordan Oliver said the crash impacted "a feeder" or a major powerline.

He said it was "essentially one of the major backbone powerlines from Merbein coming into parts of Mildura".

Power is expected to be restored about 5:30pm.
