Hong Kong authorities open probe after yacht allegedly charges boat with 6 rowers - South China Morning Post

Matthew ChengPublished: 2:26pm, 28 Sep 2026Updated: 8:26pm, 28 Sep 2026Hong Kong marine authorities have launched an investigation after a yacht sped directly towards a boat rowed by six athletes during a race in Sai Kung over the weekend, with one of the rowers alleging the act was “deliberate”.

The incident came to light on Sunday after one of the rowers, Eddie Lam Yat-ming, an assistant professor at Hong Kong Metropolitan University’s Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, shared footage of the encounter on social media.

Lam told the South China Morning Post on Monday that he had reported the incident to the Marine Department. He said he had not been informed of the investigation’s progress, but expressed confidence that the authorities would follow up on the matter professionally.

Lam was taking part in the 40km (25-mile) Sai Kung Coastal Challenge near High Island Reservoir on Saturday.
