Houthis claim ‘Saudi aircraft’ launched 129 airstrikes in Yemen over past 48 hours - Anadolu Ajansı

Yemen’s Houthi group claimed Saturday that "Saudi aircraft" carried out 129 strikes across seven Yemeni provinces over the past 48 hours.

The strikes targeted the provinces of Taiz in the southwest, Marib in the east, Hodeidah in the west, Al-Jawf in the northeast, Saada in the north, Amran in the north and Hajjah in the northwest, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said in a statement, vowing to respond.

There was no immediate comment from the Saudi authorities regarding the group's claims.

However, Riyadh maintains that it has no forces inside Yemen and that its role is limited to supporting the legitimate government’s forces and securing its borders.

Earlier on Saturday, the Yemeni army announced that its warplanes had targeted dozens of Houthi trucks.

According to a statement by the Taiz Military Axis, the trucks were carrying weapons, ammunition, and missiles and were en route from Taiz Governorate to the capital, Sanaa, which is under Houthi control.

These developments follow major shifts in the map of control in Yemen in recent days, as the Houthis announced that they took control of several districts in the western coastal provinces of Hodeidah and Taiz, as well as islands in the Red Sea, including Mayyun Island in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Meanwhile, Yemeni government forces announced advances in Al-Jawf province, which borders Saudi Arabia, and said they were approaching Al-Hazm, the provincial capital.

Yemen had been under a relative lull since April 2022 after nearly 12 years of war between government forces, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, and the Iranian-backed Houthis, who seized control of the capital, Sanaa, and large parts of the country in 2014.
