How Bank Indonesia Responds to DANA QR Credit Card Fraud - Tempo.co English
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) has urged digital wallet platform DANA to conduct a thorough investigation into fraudulent credit card transactions made through its QR code payment feature. Head of BI's Communication Department Ramdan Denny Prakoso stated that the central bank continues to monitor and scrutinize unauthorized transactions linked to the DANA application.
"Bank Indonesia has taken supervisory measures and requested DANA to conduct a comprehensive investigation, rectify weaknesses, and strengthen security to ensure that transactions run in accordance with required authentication mechanisms and security standards," Denny said in a written statement on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
According to Denny, DANA and related stakeholders have been instructed to identify and verify unrecognized transactions, follow up on consumer complaints, and resolve complaints through established regulatory channels. He affirmed that BI will continuously supervise the resolution process to ensure that the rights of affected consumers are fulfilled under existing regulations.
Denny emphasized that every payment service provider must ensure system upgrades and application modifications are backed by sound governance, risk management, testing, and security controls. "On the user side, the public is urged to safeguard the confidentiality of payment credentials, monitor transaction histories regularly, and immediately report unfamiliar transactions through official banking or service provider channels," he added.
Reports of credit card compromises linked to DANA have recently stirred widespread discussion across social media platforms. Multiple cardholders reported receiving payment notifications from DANA despite never having registered or used the e-wallet application.
DANA Indonesia Communications Director Olavina Harahap issued an apology to consumers impacted by the fraudulent scheme. "DANA is committed to investigating every report and continuously fortifying system security to protect users," she said on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, as quoted by news agency Antara.
Olavina explained that DANA has frozen digital wallet accounts suspected of being weaponized by perpetrators. She added that DANA is actively coordinating with credit card issuers to guarantee full reimbursement for affected victims.
