Husband and Wife Victims of KM Virgo from Banjarmasin Have No Heirs; Compensation Redirected to Burial Expenses

BANJARMASIN, KOMPAS.com - Husband and wife Muhammad Abdianoor (30) and Yuli (29), victims of the KM Virgo Transport 8 who passed away, do not have any heirs entitled to receive death benefits.

Both were residents of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, found deceased inside the shipwreck by the Indonesian Navy diving team on Friday (18/9/2026).

The Head of the Regional Office of PT Jasa Raharja (Persero) South Kalimantan, Ahmad Arkan Nugraha, said this stipulation refers to Law Number 33 of 1964 in conjunction with Government Regulation Number 17 of 1964 Article 12.

"For the deceased Muhammad Abdianoor and Yuli, according to the provisions of Law No. 33 of 1964 in conjunction with Government Regulation No. 17 of 1964 Article 12, they do not have heirs," he said on Saturday (19/9/2026), as reported by Antara.

According to this provision, parties who can be considered heirs include widows or widowers, children, or parents.

However, Muhammad Abdianoor and Yuli had no children. Meanwhile, their parents were also passengers on KM Virgo Transport 8 and have yet to be found.

This condition means there is no party that meets the criteria as heirs entitled to receive death benefits in the names of Muhammad Abdianoor and Yuli.

Instead, Jasa Raharja provides burial cost reimbursement amounting to Rp 4 million.

Additionally, there is extra burial cost assistance from Jasaraharja Putera amounting to Rp 2 million.

Thus, the total burial costs provided for each victim reach Rp 6 million.

Ahmad Arkan also explained this regulation to the family during the process of retrieving the bodies of Muhammad Abdianoor and Yuli at Bhayangkara Hospital Banjarmasin on Saturday.

Muhammad Abdianoor and Yuli were two of the three bodies found by the joint SAR team during the search in the KM Virgo Transport 8 wreck on Friday (18/9/2026).

Special divers from the Indonesian Navy were involved in the search. The team consisted of 10 personnel from the Frogmen Command (Kopaska) and 10 personnel from the Underwater Rescue Service (Dislambair) of the Navy Fleet Command II.

Besides the married couple, the team also found Surya (59), a resident of Tapin Regency.

However, unlike Muhammad Abdianoor and Yuli, Surya had heirs who met the criteria. Surya’s heirs received compensation of Rp 50 million from Jasa Raharja and an additional Rp 20 million from Jasaraharja Putera, amounting to a total of Rp 70 million.
