IEC insists exclusion of 181 ANC candidates due to the party's failure

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says the exclusion of 181 ANC candidates from the candidate lists is a result of the party’s own failure to submit their nominations.

The ANC and IEC remain at loggerheads, with the party having approached the Constitutional Court in a bid to have the candidates included on the list.

The party failed to submit the details of its candidates contesting PR seats in six municipalities in the Eastern Cape, Free State and KZN.

It claims that it had captured their names on the IEC's online portal but could not press the final submit button before the deadline.

The ANC wants the Constitutional Court to rule on whether it did indeed submit the names of its 181 councillors who have been excluded from the candidate lists.
