Illegal Street Racers in Majalaya Spy on Police Before Acting; 47 People and 25 Motorcycles Seized

BANDUNG, KOMPAS.com - The Majalaya Police Sector (Polsek) secured dozens of vehicles and a dozen teenagers involved in illegal street racing and gambling within the jurisdiction of Bandung Regency.

This action was taken after authorities received complaints from the community disturbed by these illegal activities.

Majalaya Police Chief, Commissioner Asep Dedi, revealed that the raids were conducted at two hotspots frequently used for illegal races: Jalan Baru area and around Borma on Jalan Laswi.

“According to reports from residents, these two locations are commonly used for illegal street racing,” Asep said when contacted by phone on Sunday (20/9/2026).

During the week-long enforcement, officers confiscated 25 motorcycles and detained 47 individuals.

The majority of those caught were teenagers, although some adults were also involved.

Some of the detainees were found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of arrest.

Asep explained that illegal racers often try to evade raids by tricking the police.

They assign someone near the police station to monitor the movements of uniformed personnel.

“Usually at midnight, we receive reports but they often manage to escape. It turns out one of them keeps an eye on the police headquarters, probably right in front of it, to check whether the police are planning a raid or not. They watch for uniformed officers,” Asep explained.

In response to this tactic, the police changed their operational strategy.

Uniformed officers were stationed inside the headquarters, while plainclothes personnel patrolled and swept the usual locations.

The police apprehended two illegal racers who were proven to have broken the law by betting money.

“We detained two racers who participated in gambling. Yesterday the bet was Rp 500,000. These racers don’t own the motorcycles they ride; they use others’ bikes. However, the owners of the motorcycles escaped,” Asep stated.
