Restaurant Pearl Morissette in Jordan Station, Niagara, retained two stars in the new edition, which was announced at a ceremony in Toronto on Sept. 22. Tanière³ in Quebec City is the only other two-starred restaurant in the country.
Fourteen Ontario restaurants kept their one-star status (jump to the full list), and no new stars were awarded.
This year’s selection includes five new Bib Gourmands (serving good value, high-quality food): Toronto’s Antylia, Golden Horseshoe Barbecue and The Lunch Lady of Saigon, St. Catharines’ Les Incompetents, and Pearl Morissette’s Jordan Station bakery, RPM Bakehouse. Eleven spots were added to the list of recommended restaurants for the first time, such as LORE in Collingwood and Takja in Toronto.
Since opening in 2017, Restaurant Pearl Morissette has received many accolades. Led by co-chefs and co-owners Daniel Hadida and Eric Robertson, the dining destination in Niagara’s wine country has taken the top spot on Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants list for the past two consecutive years and was named No. 3 among North America’s 50 Best Restaurants this June.
Set on the top floor of a sleek black barn surrounded by vineyards, farmland and vegetable gardens, the restaurant puts local ingredients and a connection to the land at the forefront.
“The farmers, fishers, millers, foragers and purveyors we work with are at the heart of everything we do,” the restaurant posted to Instagram in May, following their second Canada’s 100 Best win. “Their work allows us to present Canadian ingredients in a way that feels to us both honest and refined, rooted in place by constantly evolving.”
