External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna General Secretary Tilvin Silva and his delegation from Sri Lanka on Thursday (October 1, 2026) morning.
A five-member delegation of Sri Lanka’s ruling Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had arrived in India for a five-day visit from September 27 to October 1, 2026, as part of JVP-BJP meeting.
Following his interaction with the Mr. Silva, Mr. Jaishankar posted on X that it was pleasure to meet him and his Sri Lankan delegation.
“Had a good discussion on strengthening our deep bonds of friendship,” he said on his X post.
He further added, “As a trusted partner, India will always support Sri Lanka’s progress and prosperity.”
This is Mr. Silva’s second visit to India. Following his visit in February, Mr. Silva had spoken of the need to shift the stance of the Sri Lankan party (National People’s Power) that once vehemently resisted India.
Apart from Mr. Silva, the JVP’s central committee member Chandrika Adikari, Member of Parliament Aboobucker Athambawa, district committee member Kabilan Suntharamoorthy, and member of international department Kalpana Madhubhashini, was also part of the delegation.
“The visit aims to strengthen BJP-JVP engagement, facilitate the exchange of organisational experiences and further deepen ties between the two political parties,” the in-charge of BJP’s foreign affairs department Vijay Chauthaiwale said.
