Indian woman vlogs tiny box room in Dubai, says rent takes half her salary
A small room in Dubai came with a surprisingly hefty price tag for an Indian woman who said she pays around Rs 45,000 every month for the space. She mentioned that after living in the room for the past year, she has moved into another room of a similar size.
Sakshi gave a mini tour showing her living space and spoke about the cost of renting in Dubai. In her Instagram video, she described the room as a "tiny little box."
Despite spending a year in the compact space, her next move did not exactly mean moving into a bigger home.
Giving a different perspective, Sakshi said, it was everything around the room rather than the room itself. She said the new place will offer a different environment and atmosphere, along with a new set of neighbours.
The room, however, will remain roughly the same size.
For those unfamiliar with Dubai's rental costs, the amount may come as a surprise. Sakshi pointed out that Rs 45,000 a month can mean something very different in India, where the same amount could get tenants a much larger home.
In her video and caption, she compared her Dubai accommodation with rental options in India, saying that people in many parts of the country could get a three-bedroom, three-bathroom (3 BHK) flat for around the same amount.
Her comparison offered a glimpse into the stark difference in housing expectations between the two places. While Rs 45,000 might be enough for a spacious apartment in several Indian cities and towns, Sakshi's Dubai experience meant spending that amount on a single compact room and spending almost half her salary to cover the rent expenses.
"I pay twice of what you're paying, but trust me, it all starts like this, but don't give up on your dreams," encouraged an Instagram user. "The room I got for AED 2,000 was less of a room and more like a waiting room for a haunted cemetery," said another.
As she prepared to move, the prospect of a new neighbourhood appeared to be the main silver lining.- Ends
