Injured man expected to be charged with murder after fatal housefire in SA's mid-north - ABC News & Headlines – Australian Broadcasting Corporation

A man has died and two people remain in hospital following a fire at Redhill in South Australia's mid-north last night.

Just after 7pm on Saturday, emergency crews responded to reports of a house fire on Hope Street.

SA Police said a 63-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman were found with serious burns and were airlifted to hospital in Adelaide for treatment.

The man’s injuries were believed to be life-threatening, and the woman remains in a stable condition.

"Once the fire was extinguished and the property was safe to enter, firefighters then located the body of a 65-year-old man," police said in a statement.

Police said the 63-year-old man who was airlifted to hospital is from Wirrabara, 63 kilometres north of Redhill.

Detectives will allege he attended the Hope Street address and deliberately lit the fire which resulted in him sustaining severe burns.

"The man is expected to be charged with murder, attempt murder and arson once medically possible," police said in a statement.

The incident is not considered to b e random and the parties involved were known to each other, police said.

Police ask anyone who was witness to the incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage that can assist with the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers.
