IPID welcomes life sentence handed down to Limpopo police officer - EWN
IPID has welcomed the life sentence handed down to a Limpopo police sergeant for the attempted murder of his former girlfriend.
The Mankweng Regional Court sentenced 41-year-old Makgwadi Alfred Malemela on Thursday.
Malemela shot 38-year-old Victoria Ramaphoko six times at close range at her workplace at the Mankweng Magistrateβs Court in September 2024.
The shooting happened after Ramaphoko rejected his request that they reconcile.
"At the time of the shooting incident, Malemela violated an active domestic violence protection order that barred him from contacting Ramaphoko. The Mankweng Regional Court also sentenced Malemela to an additional two-year imprisonment for the contravention of the protection order," said IPID spokesperson, Lizzy Shuping.
