Iraq Suspends Flights to and From Iran - Tempo.co English
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Najaf International Airport in Iraq suspended all flights to and from Iran on Friday until further notice, following directives from authorities.
"Based on official directives issued by the competent authorities, it has been decided to suspend all incoming and outgoing flights to and from the Islamic Republic of Iran," said the airport administration, as cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), ANTARA reported.
The suspension begins on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 2 a.m., according to airport authorities, and will remain in effect until further notice.
Airport authorities urged the relevant parties to take the necessary measures and notify the airlines and other operators. They added that any decision to resume flights will be officially announced.
This suspension follows an announcement by the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran on Tuesday that flights from Tehran to Baghdad and Muscat, Oman, would be cancelled starting early Wednesday morning.
This development follows U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's statement on Tuesday that Iranian airline operations worldwide would halt on September 23 due to sanctions imposed on Iran.
