New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore will not play in Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the Buffalo Bills due to a shoulder injury.

Barmore was unable to participate in practice during the week, prompting the Patriots to hold him out for the road game in Buffalo. The absence removes an important interior presence from New England’s defense as it prepares to face one of the league’s most potent offenses.

The Patriots will need Cory Durden, Joshua Farmer, Leonard Taylor and DaQuan Jones to be ready to give the team meaningful production against the Bills in Barmore’s stead. Approximating Barmore’s production will be particularly important against the run and on passing downs, where pressure from the interior will help to disrupt Bills superstar quarterback Josh Allen and slow down Buffalo’s star running back James Cook.

The Patriots enter Week 4 looking to regroup following a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, and they will seek to put forth a stronger performance against the Bills.
