Jaxon Smith-Njigba makes admision on facing Christian Gonzalez - Patriots Wire

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba gave props to a New England Patriots defender when asked who is the toughest wide receiver he’s faced.

Smith-Njigba battled Gonzalez in back-to-back games, including Super Bowl LX and the 2026 regular season opener. In the Super Bowl, Gonzalez allowed only a single catch for 16 yards, and during the Week 1 rematch, the star defensive back didn't yield a catch to Smith-Njigba when directly covering the 2025 NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

"I think Christian Gonzalez had the best game versus us for sure," Smith-Njigba said, when appearing on CBS' Set, Hut!.

Gonzalez, who signed a four-year extension with the Patriots before the season, has been worth every penny. Through the first three weeks, he has continued to play like one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.

At only 24 years old, an argument could be made that he hasn't even hit his prime years yet. There's still room to grow for a player on a trajectory of becoming one of the NFL greats.
