Jayden-Lee Meek murder trial resumes in Johannesburg - IOL

The trial of Tiffany Meek, charged with the murder of her son Jayden-Lee Meek, resumes in Johannesburg today.

The trial of Tiffany Meek, charged with the murder of her son, Jayden-Lee Meek, resumes in the Johannesburg High Court on Monday. 

The matter was postponed after the judge, along with legal counsel, conducted an in-loco inspection at the Swazi Place apartment complex in Fleurhof, where Meek and 11-year-old Jayden-Lee lived on August 26. 

While there was no filming of the inspection by the court, police photographers and other personnel were on-site to assist in detailing the events to be placed on the record during the trial.

After the inspection, Meek and legal counsel returned to the court, where the matter was formally postponed.  

According to the judge, the photographs taken during the inspection would be printed and compiled into an album to be placed on the record for the trial. However, it was revealed that the police officer who compiles the album would not be available, and therefore the matter was postponed. 

The album is expected to be handed over to the court and entered as evidence. 

This would allow for references to be made directly to the album from legal counsel, Meek, and witnesses called to testify during the trial.

Meek has pleaded not guilty to murder, child abuse, defeating the ends of justice, and crimen injuria charges in connection with her son's death.

Jayden-Lee was reported missing on May 13, 2025, after he apparently failed to return home from school.

His lifeless, half-naked body was found the next day, near the staircase in the Swazi Place complex, just metres from the front door of his home.

Meek was arrested a month later and has been in custody since, following a failed bail application.
