Jessica Sanchez brings the house down at Calgary’s Fiesta Filipino Festival 2026

CALGARY, Alberta — Thousands of Filipinos gathered at Eau Claire Park on Sept. 5 for an extraordinary celebration of Filipino culture, music and community — and the evening reached a thrilling high point when international singing sensation Jessica Sanchez took the stage.

The four-day Fiesta Filipino Festival, organized by the Philippine Festival Council of Alberta, brought together the Filipino community in Calgary for a vibrant celebration of heritage and entertainment. At the helm of the event was Evangeline Caoile, head organizer of the Philippine Festival Council of Alberta, whose invitation brought “America’s Got Talent” grand winner Jessica Sanchez to Calgary for what became one of the festival’s most memorable moments.

The festival also featured GMA 7 Kapuso talents Paul Salas, Shuvee Etrata and Rochelle Pangilinan with the G-Force Dancers Myka and Jeric, and Jason Zamora of The Manoeuvres adding even more star power to the four-day celebration.

But when Jessica appeared onstage, thousands of voices rose in anticipation. And she delivered.

Despite the cold and rain, the crowd stayed firmly in place as the powerhouse vocalist warmed the evening with a stunning selection of her signature songs, including Tonight, All the Sweet Love, Beautiful Things and If I Ain’t Got You.

Her performance demonstrated why Jessica has remained one of the most remarkable vocal talents to emerge from the Filipino-American community. Her voice was powerful yet controlled, soulful yet effortless, with the kind of emotional depth that commands attention from the very first note.

But what made Jessica’s appearance particularly meaningful was not simply the quality of her vocals. It was the connection she established with the Filipino community.

Throughout the evening, Jessica spoke openly about her journey and repeatedly expressed her gratitude to the Filipino community for standing behind her throughout her career. She acknowledged that the love and support of Filipinos around the world had played a significant role in bringing her to where she is today.

“I would not be in this position that I’m in today without the love and support that you guys have given me throughout my whole journey,”Jessica told the audience.

She then reflected on just how remarkable that journey has been.

Jessica recalled beginning her “America’s Got Talent” journey at only nine years old. Now 30, she noted that two decades have passed since audiences first witnessed the young singer with the extraordinary voice.

“To the people that have followed my journey since then — I’m 30 now, so it’s been 20 years — and to come back and to win it, to win it all, with all of your guys’ support, means the world to me.”

The moment was especially poignant because Jessica’s recent “America’s Got Talent” victory represents a remarkable full-circle moment. The young girl who once dreamed of making it in the music industry returned years later to claim the competition’s ultimate prize — with an enormous Filipino following cheering her on.

Jessica also spoke with remarkable humility about the responsibility she feels toward her music and her audience.

“I just want to do my best with this career that God’s given me, this platform that’s God’s given me, and, you know, I hope that my music can bring light to your guys’ lives.”

Then came perhaps the most touching acknowledgment of the evening.

Looking out at thousands of Filipinos who had braved the cold and rain, Jessica thanked them not only for coming to see her, but for coming together to celebrate their culture.

“Thank you for being out here in the cold and the rain, not only to be here with me but to celebrate our culture. I love you guys.”

It was a moment that captured the true spirit of Fiesta Filipino.

For Evangeline Caoile and the Philippine Festival Council of Alberta, bringing Jessica to the festival was more than simply booking an international star. It created an opportunity for the Filipino community to celebrate one of its own.

And for Jessica, the Calgary appearance was clearly more than another concert date. It was a homecoming.

She came to entertain thousands, and she certainly did that. But she also came to acknowledge the people who have been part of her journey. Jessica’s voice filled Eau Claire Park, but it was her message of gratitude that truly resonated.

She stood before thousands of Filipinos in Calgary not simply as an international recording artist or an “AGT” grand winner, but as a proud daughter of the Filipino community — coming home to say, “Thank you.”

And judging from the thunderous response she received, the feeling was very much mutual.
