The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to introduce major changes to the provincial education curriculum from primary to intermediate level after nearly two decades, with a significant reduction in the number of subjects and teaching content.
Under the new curriculum, the number of subjects taught up to primary level has been reduced. From Class 8 to Class 12, the volume of subjects has also been cut, and the number of lessons within those subjects has been decreased.
On the directions of the provincial government, the Elementary and Secondary Education Department is implementing the most substantial curriculum reforms in about 20 years. A new curriculum has been approved for Classes 9 to 12, under which the national curriculum will be adopted in eight key subjects. These include English, Urdu, Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics and General Science.
