Karachi to get all interior ministry services under one roof

Citizens in Karachi will soon be able to access a range of interior ministry services at a single location as Pakistan’s largest service centre is planned for the city.

The Grand Khidmat Markaz will house counters of all institutions under the Ministry of Interior, enabling citizens to access passports, identity cards, arms licences, various no-objection certificates (NOCs) and other services under one roof, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Tuesday.

The security czar visited the Ministry of Interior office on II Chundrigar Road, where he reviewed plans for establishing the Grand Khidmat Markaz.

On the occasion, he said that the availability of counters of all institutions under the Ministry of Interior at the centre will allow citizens to obtain various services at a single location.

The minister directed that the master plan for the Grand Khidmat Markaz be prepared while taking all necessary requirements into consideration. He sought the plan for the facility within 10 days.

Naqvi also instructed the relevant authorities to ensure all necessary measures for establishing the facility.

Meanwhile, the minister inspected new vehicles that were procured from China for the Islamabad Rescue and Fire Brigade. 

Naqvi welcomed the arrival of the new vehicles in Pakistan, saying their inclusion would mark the biggest addition to the Islamabad Rescue service since 2009.

He thanked the Chinese government for ensuring the early provision of the vehicles.

The modern rescue vehicles will remain available round the clock at six stations across Islamabad.

The new rescue vehicles are capable of conducting operations at heights of up to 256 feet.

The new fleet includes four fire aerial trucks, six fire towers and five fire tanks. The vehicles are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.

The vehicles will reach Islamabad from Karachi within five days.
