KATSEYE members unfollow Ed Sheeran over Palestine issue

KATSEYE members have unfollowed Ed Sheeran on Instagram amid controversy surrounding rapper Macklemore's removal from the remaining US dates of Sheeran's Loop Tour. Fans noticed on September 15 that KATSEYE members Manon, Daniela, Lara, Megan and Yoonchae were no longer following Sheeran on Instagram. Fans also pointed out that Lara and Megan had liked a post shared by Macklemore after he was removed from the tour, while Lara began following the rapper. The social media activity comes after Macklemore voiced support for Palestinians during his opening performance in New Jersey on September 5. Messina Touring Group, the promoter for Sheeran's Loop Tour, later announced that Macklemore would not perform at the remaining US shows. Macklemore subsequently addressed the situation, saying that neither he nor Sheeran was a victim of the circumstances and describing Sheeran as his friend. He also said Sheeran's "typical apolitical stance" had been challenged in a way it had not been before. Sheeran has a professional connection with KATSEYE, having co-written "Animal", the group's third EP released in July. The singer previously said he became a fan of KATSEYE after hearing their 2025 single "Gnarly" and reached out to collaborate with the group. KATSEYE members' decision to unfollow Sheeran has received mixed reactions online. Some fans have supported the move, while others have called for "Animal" to be removed from the group's future setlists. The controversy has also drawn reactions from celebrities and activists, including Kehlani, Zara Larsson, Florence Pugh, Nicola Coughlan and Greta Thunberg, who interacted with Macklemore's social media posts. Katseye is recognized for their distinctive fashion identity, prominently drawing influence from Y2K fashion.
