The Kerala Public Services Commission (KPSC) has approached the Kerala High Court, challenging the prosecution sanction order and subsequently registered case against KPSC members and staff over the alleged irregularities in the appointment of Chief (Industry and Infrastructure Division) of the Kerala State Planning Board.
The case registered by the Crime Branch police station, Thiruvananthapuram, pertains to alleged malpractices in the evaluation process for the appointment.
The petition sought to quash the sanction granted by the government to prosecute the Commissionβs employees and the first information report (FIR) registered by the Crime Branch police station.
The Commission alleged that the State had granted sanction to investigate the alleged malpractice in the evaluation of answer sheets even though no accused was named in the FIR.
The KPSC contended that its members could only be removed by the President of India. Being an autonomous constitutional body, it was not under the control of the State government.
The petition stated that in the Vigilance inquiry into the alleged irregularities, it was noted that a mistake had occurred in the on-screen marking evaluation process in the examination conducted for the post of State Planning Board Chief. The Economics questions were not allotted to the appropriate evaluators, which resulted in their non-assessment. However, the Commission claimed that it had taken remedial measures to rectify the errors in the rank list and the evaluation process.
