A 90-year-old man from Agali in Madakasira taluk of Sri Sathya Sai district, who suffered a severe heart attack and was also living with chronic kidney disease, was successfully treated with emergency angioplasty at KIMS Saveera Hospitals, Anantapur.

The advanced age of the patient, coupled with impaired kidney function, made the emergency cardiac intervention challenging. While restoring blood flow to the heart at the earliest was critical, the use of contrast dye during angioplasty posed an additional risk to the already compromised kidneys.

The patient was brought to KIMS Saveera with a severe heart attack. After assessing his condition, the cardiology team performed an emergency angioplasty and placed a stent in the blocked coronary artery, thereby restoring blood flow to the heart.

Given his underlying kidney disease, the doctors adopted a kidney-protective approach and used the minimum possible quantity of contrast dye during the procedure. The intervention was carried out with close monitoring and appropriate precautions based on inputs from the nephrology team, including Dr. Badarinath and Dr. Sameer John.

Following the procedure, the patient’s condition gradually improved and he was discharged from the hospital in a stable condition.

Chief Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Moode Sandeep said KIMS Saveera’s cardiology team is equipped to manage complex cardiac emergencies with advanced technology and multidisciplinary expertise.

“Timely decision-making and careful planning are particularly important when treating elderly patients with multiple health conditions. Our cardiology team, supported by specialists from other departments, regularly manages complex heart conditions and structural cardiac problems. In high-risk patients, every aspect of the procedure needs to be carefully considered to achieve the best possible outcome,” he said.
