Rohit Sharma found himself at the centre of IPL banter when former India batting coach Abhishek Nayar teased him with Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders chants, only for the former India captain to give Mumbai Indians fans a reason to smile. The banter comes amid plenty of questions around Mumbai Indians after another difficult IPL campaign. Hardik Pandya has faced significant criticism during his stint as captain, with MI finishing ninth in IPL 2026 after managing only four wins, while the previous season also ended in disappointment despite the team making the playoffs.

Pandya’s own future has also become a major talking point. Reports have claimed that the all-rounder wanted to leave MI and had explored a return to Gujarat Titans, while KKR and other franchises were also reported to have shown interest. His 2024 return to Mumbai from Gujarat was completed through a trade involving his Rs 15 crore, along with an undisclosed transfer fee.
