Kolkata intern doctor faces backlash for sharing delivery room pics. People tag cops
An intern doctor at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH) drew the internet’s ire after screenshots of her Instagram stories showing patients during medical procedures surfaced online.
The intern, named Dr Sudeshna Mondal, has a private Instagram account, but screenshots of her stories made their way to X that showed her sitting with a patient after delivery. Another image showed the face of a newborn baby.
One particular post shared by X user AnuCreate.in, spoke about the ethical violation made by the woman during a patient’s “vulnerable and helpless state.”
“Blurred on the feed. Unblurred on her phone. Who else has those photos? This is not medicine and this is pure criminal voyeurism. Outraging modesty of patients under anaesthesia. Violates National Medical Commission (NMC) Ethics + IT Act 66E/67,” read the caption of the post.
For context, Section 66E of the Information Technology Act, 2000 deals with the violation of privacy and penalises the intentional capture, publication or transmission of images of a person’s private areas without consent, subject to the provision’s legal requirements.
Several other X users raised similar concerns, with many pointing to medical ethics guidelines that restrict doctors from sharing identifiable images of patients on social media without appropriate consent.
Previously, content creator Amit Kilhor, had shared a detailed video on September 5 about the same intern doctor examining the photographs and raising questions about several aspects of the incident. Among other concerns, he pointed to the intern appearing to wear a smartwatch while handling a newborn baby.

The posts have since prompted users to tag Kolkata Police and other concerned authorities, seeking action in the matter.
Many users also questioned the growing tendency to take workplace experiences and then turn them into social media content, arguing that certain moments, particularly those involving patients in vulnerable situations, should remain private.
The incident has also renewed discussion around the boundaries healthcare professionals need to maintain when documenting their work and sharing content online, particularly when patients are involved.- Ends
