Dismissing speculation about quitting the party following her removal from the Telangana Cabinet, Warangal East MLA Konda Surekha made it clear that her family would remain with the Congress.

She also hoped that her husband and former MLC Konda Muralidhar Rao would soon be offered a chairman post in any one of the State corporations. The couple said that they would strive to make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister.

After her removal from the Cabinet following her daughter Sushmitha’s comments against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Ms. Surekha and Mr. Murali held a meeting with their main followers in Warangal for the first time on Sunday.

During the meeting, Ms. Surekha continued her claim that she had not brought any disrepute to the minister's post and expressed her anguish over removal from the Cabinet for ‘no valid reason’.

She also made a veiled attack on both Warangal West MLA Naini Rajender Reddy and MLC Baswaraju Saraiah. She said that he (Saraiah) would not even win a corporator post.

Claiming that she had received phone calls from the party high command, she hoped that an official post would be offered to Mr. Murali.

She slammed the “growing opportunistic politics” too. “We are not in politics for posts, we are here to serve the people,” the former minister said.

Ms. Surekha also appealed to her followers not to be carried away by the false propaganda.

Meanwhile, Mr. Murali maintained that they would do politics by adhering to their values and cautioned his rivals against commenting on them. He stated that the Konda couple would not leave the Congress party, and expressed his commitment to ensuring that 24 corporators win in the Warangal East constituency in the upcoming Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) elections.

The former MLC emphasised that those who work hard will receive tickets and assured that he will protect the workers at any cost.
