The Konaseema Railway Sadhana Samithi (KRSS) convener E.R. Subramanyam and its steering committee members, including MLC Kudupudi Suryanarayana, on Saturday appealed to Amalapuram MP G. Harish Balayogi to expedite the pending land acquisition for the Kotipalli-Narsapur railway line in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district.
The Department of Transport, Roads and Buildings issued G.O.R.T. 575 on October 1, according administrative sanction of ₹100 crore to expedite the railway project, with the State government committing to contribute 25% of the total project cost. The project is being executed by the South Coast Railway.
Mr. Subramanyam, Mr. Suryanarayana and KRSS steering committee members Polisetti Sivaji, Vankayala Raja, Eragarth Venkateswara Rao and G.V.S. Krishna Rao met Mr. Harish Balayogi on Saturday and thanked him for his efforts in securing the administrative sanction.
The KRSS, formed with representatives of political parties, civil society organisations, academicians and lawyers, has been pursuing the railway line project since its foundation stone was laid in 2001.
Responding to the KRSS appeal, Mr. Harish Balayogi said officials of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district had been directed to proceed with the land acquisition. He said the hurdles in proceeding with the new alignment had also been cleared.
“The Kotipalli-Narsapur railway line project will be back on track with immediate effect,” he said.
In the run-up to the 2024 general elections, Mr. Harish Balayogi had promised to complete the Kotipalli-Narsapur railway line, which was conceived by his father and former Lok Sabha Speaker G.M.C. Balayogi.
Mr. Harish Balayogi and the KRSS representatives thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan for their support.
