Affected family alleges house intrusion, assault on women in police 'presence'
Women and elderly people were allegedly subjected to mistreatment by influential individuals in the presence of police in the Wah Cantt police station area, with videos of the incident also emerging.
The affected family alleged that the influential individuals entered their house and subjected women to violence over a dispute concerning the vacation of the property, while police personnel present at the scene allegedly remained silent spectators.
The incident occurred between the landlord and tenants. Police reached the spot to investigate the matter, but the two sides allegedly became involved in another altercation. The Potohar SP has been appointed as an inquiry officer to investigate the incident.
The viral videos show women screaming and seeking help from police, while several individuals can also be seen entering the affected family's house in the presence of police personnel.
Police said the incident stemmed from a tenancy dispute. The affected family had rented the house to a former government officer. However, following the expiry of the tenancy agreement, a dispute arose between the two sides over vacating the house and alleged non-payment of rent.
The head of the affected family, Safdar Ali, said the house had been rented to a government officer two years ago under a one-year agreement, which had since expired. He said the tenant had been asked to vacate the house for the past year.
Ali alleged that the tenant entered the house with several people, assaulted women and damaged property.
The affected family alleged that police were siding with influential individuals and that they were not being provided with relief.
Police, however, said the dispute between the two parties had been brought to the notice of Wah Cantt police station and that an application from the affected party was received a day earlier. Both parties would be summoned and action would be taken in accordance with the law.
Police said people from both sides were injured in the latest incident and had been referred for medical examination. Further action would be taken in accordance with the law after receipt of the medical reports.
A police spokesperson said the parties were a landlord and tenant whose families had become involved in a dispute. Police responded immediately to a call regarding the altercation between the parties.
Both sides lodged complaints against each other regarding causing damage and damaging property. Police visited the roof of the house to verify the complaints.
The spokesperson further said another altercation took place between the two families after police arrived at the scene.
The spokesperson added that legal action was being taken over the dispute and that those responsible would be identified, while merit would be ensured.
