Lauren Sánchez Bezos sparks backlash with ‘inappropriate’ plunging dress at state dinner

Lauren Sánchez Bezos sent the internet buzzing when she arrived to a state dinner at the White House.

The 56-year-old former journalist attended the dinner with her husband, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, in honor of Chinese President Xi Jinping, in a figure-hugging black off-the-shoulder dress with a plunging neckline.

She paired the look with diamond drop earrings and a large statement diamond necklace.

Many X users took issue with Lauren's choice, calling her out for showing too much cleavage at such a high-profile event, with some even questioning why they were even there.

"Money does not buy one class. She dresses terribly. So inappropriate." one user wrote.

"Why are they invited to an event and eating on the tax payer dime?" one user asked, while another wrote, "Have some dignity for goodness sake. This is a state dinner and you are 56 years old."

There were others who came to her defense online, writing that it isn't anyone's business what she chooses to wear and that they thought she looked nice.

"Who else doesn't care and thinks she should wear whatever she wants?!!!" one user asked. Another added, "She looks great, and Jeff is very lucky to be her husband."

"She’s come a long way from being the entertainment reporter on the local LA news station," a third wrote. "Good for her."

This is not the first time Lauren has caused controversy with one of her outfits, as she also received criticism for the outfit she wore to President Trump's inauguration in January 2025.

She wore a white Alexander McQueen pantsuit featuring a fitted satin-trimmed blazer with a dangerously low-cut V-neck with her risqué white lace bustier popping out from underneath.
