The South African Weather Service has issued a level six weather warning for several parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

The service said that between Thursday and Friday, heavy disruptive rains can be expected to hit areas along the KZN coast, which include Ethekwini, KwaDukuza, Mandeni and Ray Nkonyeni.

The severe weather is caused by a ridging high-pressure system and a coastal low-pressure system.

Ethekwini municipality spokesperson, Senzelwe Mzila, said the city has activated its disaster management systems in preparation.

“The city anticipates widespread, heavy rainfall that could cause severe localised flooding on our roads, low-lying bridges and informal settlements.”
