Live: Manju Rani eyeing marathon race walk medal, archers in action
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Asian Games 2026 for all Indian athletes competing on Sunday, September 27.
Surfing was interrupted yesterday as the athletes were made to wait for more than a day before hitting the waves. Kamali and Sugar Shanti weren't affected by it at all as they secured first in their round 2 heats. Kamali beat Singapore's Camille Marie 7.57-4.5 with a fantastic performance.
Sugar Shanti defeated Wan-yu Chen of Chinese Taipei 7.33-5.4.
Up next is Sivaraj Babu for India in the men's round 2 heats.
Manju Rani has been given her third card and will have to serve a penalty now. This will be a big blow for India's medal hopes. Manju will need to be careful now as one more card will mean that she will be disqualified. She has dropped down to No.5 after the card and penalty.
A sensational start from the archers here in the 1/8 elimination rounds in men's and women's compound team events. India defeated UAE 235-215 in the men's side of things and beat Mongolia 238-223 in the women's event. A strong start to the day for the archers.
The hope will be that they can continue the momentum.
India's day has had an early start with the women's marathon race walk currently ongoing. It has been a mixed bag of results for India so far as Manju Rani is currently in fourth spot and Priyanka being disqualified from the race. Priyanka collected a total of four cards.
Manju finds herself a bit away from the top three at the moment and she will need a big push now.
India will have a busy Sunday at the Asian Games, with several medal contenders and finalists set to take centre stage on September 27. The day gets underway with the women’s marathon race walk, where Priyanka and Manju Rani will look to make their mark in the medal event. Equestrian dressage, shooting and archery will also feature prominently through the morning, with medals and places in the next rounds up for grabs.
Harjinder Kaur will then carry India’s hopes in the women’s 69kg weightlifting final at 10am. The squash courts will take over around midday, with two Indian players bidding for gold. Abhay Singh faces Malaysia’s NG Eain Yow in the men’s singles final at 12:30pm, before Anahat Singh meets Sivasangari Subramaniam in the women’s singles title clash at 1:30pm.
The focus will shift to athletics in the evening, with a packed schedule of finals. Ancy Sojan Edapilly and Shaili Singh will compete for medals in the women’s long jump, while Animesh Kujur lines up in the men’s 200m final. India will also have representation in the women’s 200m, men’s high jump, 100m hurdles and 3000m steeplechase finals as the track and field programme takes centre stage.
