Pooja and Anamika have been putting in a brave performance so far in the women's heptathlon, but both stars find themselves outside the medal places at the moment. Anamika is seventh and Pooja is in ninth with 3177 and 3159 points. Fatimeh Mohitizadeh of Iran is in the lead at the moment with 3486 points.
But all that could change with three more events remaining in the competition. It will start with the long jump today, followed by javelin throw.
India had another busy day at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, picking up five medals across athletics, shooting, wushu and rowing. There was no gold on Thursday, but the medal tally continued to climb with two silvers and three bronzes.
Seema Kumari opened India's athletics medal account with bronze in the women's 10,000m, before the mixed 4x400m relay quartet of TS Manu, MR Poovamma, Vishal TK and Vithya Ramraj secured silver in 3:14.46.
Roshibina Devi followed with silver in the women's Sanda 60kg final, while Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal claimed bronze in mixed team skeet. Rowers Satnam Singh and Salman Khan also finished third in the men's double sculls.
India's relay silver was briefly held up after a UAE protest, but the result was confirmed once the UAE was disqualified. Bahrain took gold in a Games-record 3:12.87.
Animesh Kujur and Gurindervir Singh both advanced to the men's 100m semifinals, finishing third and second respectively in their heats. Kujur clocked 10.36s, while Gurindervir returned 10.38s.
Asha Ilango narrowly missed out on a triple jump medal. Her 13.83m effort matched China's Yi Li, but she finished fourth after losing the countback on the second-best jump.
India's men's hockey team made it three wins from three with an emphatic 8-2 victory over South Korea. Dilpreet Singh scored a hat-trick, while Shilanand Lakra, Harmanpreet Singh, Abhishek and Rajinder Singh also found the net.
The defending champions remain top of Pool A and will face hosts Japan next. Penalty-corner conversion remained a concern, with India missing four straight chances before Rajinder finally converted late in the match.
India's men's and women's kabaddi teams completed unbeaten group campaigns and moved into the semifinals.
The men's side beat Chinese Taipei 37-21 to finish with four wins from four, while the women's team defeated hosts Japan 50-25 after earlier victories over Bangladesh and Iran.
Both teams are now within two wins of another Asian Games gold-medal double.
Anahat Singh, Tanvi Khanna, Abhay Singh and Veer Chotrani all reached the singles quarterfinals.
Anahat and Tanvi will face each other in an all-Indian women's quarterfinal, while Abhay won 3-0 against Sri Lanka's Ravindu Laksiri. Veer survived a five-game battle against Malaysia's Sanjay Jeeva.
Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar also moved into the mixed doubles quarterfinals.
India's women's doubles pairs Diya Chitale-Yashaswini Ghorpade and Sreeja Akula-Syndrela Das both won their Round of 32 matches in straight games. Manush Shah also progressed in men's singles.
Parveen advanced in women's 65kg boxing after a walkover, while Paritosh reached the Puyo Puyo Champions quarterfinals in esports.
Rohit Benedicton, meanwhile, finished 12th in the men's 50m butterfly heats and was listed among the reserves for the final.
India therefore ended Day 5 with five more medals, several strong team performances and a host of athletes moving deeper into their respective competitions. The focus now turns to Day 6, with the men's 100m semifinals among the major athletics highlights.
Unlike the other days, September 25 was an early start for India with surfing. India's Sugar Shanti and Kamali Prakash have finished in third place in their respective heats in the Women's shortboard Round 1.
Shanti got a combined score of 3.84 and she was trailing behind the leader by 6.51 points.
Kamali ended up with a score of 3.74 in her heat, trailing the leader by 8.27.

The medal action is set to pick up on Day 6 of the Asian Games, with India bracing for a packed Friday and plenty of chances to add to its growing tally. Shooting will be looking to bounce back after a relatively underwhelming start, while canoe sprint and weightlifting also offer medal opportunities for the Indian contingent.
Athletics will take centre stage later in the day, with four medal events scheduled as India looks to finish Friday on a high.
There are seven medal events featuring Indian athletes lined up across the day. The action gets underway early, with shooting once again among the first sports to offer India a shot at the podium.
Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil and Niraj Kumar will be in action in the menβs 50m rifle 3 positions team final, with a medal at stake. Earlier, Kamaljeet and Suruchi Inder Singh will team up in the qualification round of the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
But there is plenty happening away from the medal events as well.
Indiaβs menβs and womenβs kabaddi teams will take the court in their respective semi-finals, with places in the gold-medal matches up for grabs. The fencing contingent will also begin its knockout campaign, while Indian athletes and teams will be involved in squash, table tennis, swimming, surfing, hockey and esports through the day.
With medal events spread from the morning into the evening, Friday promises to be another busy one for India in Aichi-Nagoya. Stay with us as we bring you all the latest results, updates and developments from Day 6.
