Live: Xi Jinping heads to Delhi for BRICS Summit, 1st India visit since Galwan

Bharat Mandapam is under a multi-layered security cover as the first formal session of the BRICS Summit gets underway in Delhi. Around 25,000 personnel, including Delhi Police, CAPFs and NSG commandos, have been deployed across the national capital to secure the movement and stay of visiting leaders. The route between Bharat Mandapam and Hyderabad House is under heightened surveillance, while 35 key roads identified for the movement of world leaders are being kept under special security vigil.

A Global Times editorial said BRICS can continue to grow and remain vibrant because of its commitment to openness and inclusiveness, win-win cooperation, and fairness and justice. It said the more turbulent and transformative the world becomes, the more the value of BRICS cooperation comes into focus, expressing confidence in the grouping’s potential and the future of BRICS countries.

WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has arrived in India to attend the BRICS Summit 2026 in Delhi.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres met Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the BRICS Summit and expressed appreciation for India’s close cooperation with the United Nations. The two leaders discussed India’s BRICS presidency priorities, including the need for multilateral institutions that reflect the realities of the 21st century.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has left for India to attend the 18th BRICS Summit, according to China’s Xinhua News. His departure comes ahead of the BRICS gathering in New Delhi.
