A woman in Lucknow allegedly got her husband killed with the help of her lover and his associate after repeated disputes over his continued contact with his first wife, police said on Friday. The body was dumped near a canal.

Police said the woman, her lover and his associate have been arrested, while her 16-year-old son has been detained. The action came two days after the victim’s body was found inside a trunk near a canal away from her residence.

DCP (Lucknow South) Mohammad Mushtaq said the accused woman, Sufia Bano, had been in a relationship with Ramkishore Valmiki for around four years before they got married to each other about two years ago.

Mushtaq said Bano was also in a relationship with Munna alias Muchhad, 52, about whom Ramkishore eventually came to know about.

The official said this led to frequent disputes between the couple, especially after Ramkishore resumed visiting his first wife, Kavita Devi, and giving her financial support.

"Bano then conspired with Munna and his associate Mohammad Iqbal alias Basir Ahmed, 40, to kill Ramkishore," the officer told reporters, accompanied by Additional DCP Rallapalli Vasanth Kumar.

According to the police, on the intervening night of September 14 and September 15, Bano called the two men to her house and left the door unlocked.

They entered while Ramkishore was asleep and allegedly stabbed him to death. Police said the accused then tried to destroy evidence by plastering the floor and hiding a bloodstained broom, the victim’s clothes and the knife used in the crime.

Bano later called her son, after which the four allegedly hid the body inside a wooden box kept under a bed, the police said. Later, the body was loaded onto an e-rickshaw and dumped under a canal bridge, police said.

An FIR was registered on September 17 under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other provisions on a complaint by Kavita Devi.

DCP Mushtaq said four police teams checked around 170-180 CCTV recordings along the suspected e-rickshaw route and used technical and field intelligence to trace it.

Police said they have also recovered the alleged murder weapon and the e-rickshaw used to transport the body.- Ends(With PTI inputs)Published By: India Today Web Desk Published On: Sep 19, 2026 07:21 IST
