Made-in-India Jimny, Fronx and e Vitara cross 1 lakh exports to Japan
Maruti Suzuki has crossed the 1 lakh-unit export milestone for its Made-in-India Jimny 5-door, Fronx and e Vitara in Japan. The milestone underlines the growing role of India as a manufacturing and export hub for Suzuki.
Japan has emerged as Maruti Suzuki’s second-largest export market by volume. The country retained the position during April-August of FY2026-27, after ranking second in FY2025-26.
The Fronx was the first of the three models to be exported to Japan, with shipments beginning in August 2024. The Jimny 5-door followed in December 2024, while the e Vitara joined the export portfolio in September 2025.
Both the Jimny 5-door and e Vitara are manufactured exclusively in India. The e Vitara is Maruti Suzuki’s first battery electric vehicle and is also exported to several international markets.
The growing acceptance of these India-made models has also helped Suzuki Motor Corporation become the No. 1 vehicle importer in Japan in FY2025-26, according to Maruti Suzuki.
Vehicles manufactured by Maruti Suzuki accounted for nearly 100% of Suzuki’s vehicle imports into Japan during the financial year. Japan is among the world's most competitive and demanding automotive markets, making the milestone significant for India's export ambitions.
Commenting on the milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India, said that the 1 lakh-unit achievement was an endorsement of India's manufacturing capabilities and the India-Japan partnership.Maruti Suzuki exports over 1.8 lakh vehicles in five months

The automaker exported more than 1.8 lakh vehicles between April and August of FY2026-27 and has remained India's largest passenger vehicle exporter from FY2021-22 through FY2025-26. The company claims to account for more than 50% of India's passenger vehicle exports.
