Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State yesterday assured the public that his administration would thoroughly examine the recommendations of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry on the abduction of students and teachers at Oriire Community in Olorunsogo Local Council Area of the state.
Makinde gave the assurance while receiving the report from the commissionβs chairman, Justice Mojeed Owoade (rtd), at the Governorβs Office in Ibadan.
He emphasised that confidentiality would not be used as an excuse to avoid accountability, noting that the Oriire attack tested the security architecture that his administration had built over the years.
Makinde said his administration would carefully study its recommendations before making its response public and outlining concrete actions to be taken.
According to him, sensitive information that could endanger lives or prejudice security operations would be protected. However, he stressed that confidentiality must not be used as an excuse to avoid accountability.
Owoade had disclosed that the commission heard from 72 witnesses during its proceedings, including victims, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, experts and other stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Makinde called on the federal government to intensify efforts and prioritise the rescue of the over 40 children reportedly abducted in Borno State on the same day as the students and teachers in Oriire.
