Malema calls for EFF takeover of Cape Town ahead of local elections - IOL
EFF leader Julius Malema yesterday urged the Red Berets to campaign at every house and ensure that Cape Town is a liberated zone in the local government elections.
“When we sleep at midnight on November 4 this place should be a liberated zone. The enemy must know that the EFF has taken power in Western Cape and in the City of Cape Town,” Malema said during the launch of the Western Cape manifesto in Delft.
“This Cape Town is ours. Stop doubting yourselves, stop thinking twice, this is our home and we are to ensure that on November 4 we put a stamp that says this is the home of black people and all South Africans. I want us to wake up on November 5 on top of the building of the City of Cape Town. There must be a red flag flying all over the City of Cape Town as a sign that economic freedom has arrived,” he said.
Malema described the EFF as the organisation campaigning for clean drinkable water for every household.
Malema also said they want each house to be electrified and have flushing toilets.
“We don't want the bucket toilet system. We don't want our people to help themselves in the bushes. There must be toilets inside the house and those toilets must be flushing,” he told the thousands of members and supporters.
He said under the EFF-led City of Cape Town, all will have access to jobs.
“We want you to work whether you are a DA member or not, you must get a job in the City of Cape Town. Whether you are ANC or not, the only qualification you need is your ID plus qualifications. That is all, we don't care about your political affiliation.”
Malema also said they want land to produce for the country and the continent.
“We want that land in Stellenbosch. No one came with land here. They found this land here."
Malema stated that the land in Stellenbosch did not belong to foreigners.
“We are not to put shacks in Stellenbosch. We are not to build houses on the farms. We are to continue producing wine and give to the world and make money for our children because every time we say we want land, they think we want land to put shacks on because they think we don't know business.”
He further said the people of Cape Town should benefit from their own sea and natural resources.
“We are to make sure that the government makes resources and tools available to continue to fish without any problems. Fishing is not reserved for whites and foreigners with big ships,” he said.
He said clinics will have a nurse, doctor, ambulance and medical equipment to treat cancer and other illnesses.
“We want one ward to have one clinic,” he said, adding that the unemployed doctors should be employed to work at the clinics.
He dismissed suggestions that the EFF will take away pension grants, saying the Red Beret will instead increase it to R4,500.
Malema also said pension grant beneficiaries should not be made to pay for electricity and water.
He added that if the EFF was to be in charge of the police in the City of Cape Town, it would deal with drug lords.
“We know who sells drugs in Cape Town. We know every house that sells drugs.”
He warned those who vote for the DA and Patriotic Alliance, saying they are backing Israel that killed women and children.
“Anyone who votes for the DA and PA must know the blood of the children of Palestine is on your hands. You are enabling a murderer to continue to kill the people of Palestine.”
Turning to the ANC, Malema urged the elderly not to say they will vote for the ANC of Nelson Mandela.
He said Mandela was not like President Cyril Ramaphosa.
“He does not hide money in a mattress and couches. He was never corrupt. This is not the ANC of Nelson Mandela. This is the most dangerous ANC.”
