The two factions of the All India Trinamool Congress were allotted fresh symbols and party names by the Election Commission of India on Friday (September 18, 2026).
The Mamata Banerjee-led faction has been assigned the name ‘Mamata All India Trinamool Congress’ with the symbol ‘football player.’
Meanwhile, the Ritabrata Banerjee-led faction has been allotted the name ‘Democratic Trinamool Congress’ with the ‘envelope’ symbol.
On Thursday (September 17, 2026), the ECI had barred both factions from using the party symbol and name in the coming Assembly bypolls in Nandigram and Rejinagar in West Bengal scheduled on October 6.
As per the ECI directive both the factions had sent alternative names and symbols to the Commission.
