Man shot by ICE agent during Austin incident - Newsweek
A man has been transported to the hospital after being shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, according to local officials.
"I've heard from someone that an ICE vehicle boxed in a civilian vehicle, sideswiped it by the side, and then an ICE officer shot the driver of the vehicle," Austin City Council Member Mike Siegel told local news outlet KVUE in a video interview.
The man who was shot was transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition, Austin-Travis County EMS Chief Robert Luckritz said during a press conference on Sunday afternoon.
"My top concern right now is that this gets investigated properly," Siegel told KVUE. "I've been told that this is essentially a federal crime scene, but I want the city police to also be a part of the investigation, so the public has confidence that we're getting real facts that there is a proper investigation being conducted."
Video shared on social media appears to show an ICE agent holding a weapon as they get out of a black vehicle and approach a blue car. Inside the car, a man can be seen in the driver seat with the door open. The blue vehicle in the video appears to have damage to the passenger side.
The Austin Police Department (APD) referred Newsweek to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for any questions on the shooting when reached by email Sunday.

"The horror has come to our city: ICE has shot a person in Austin this morning," Democratic Representative Greg Casar wrote in an X post.
"As the facts emerge, I am demanding a full, independent investigation, immediate release of the body camera footage, and accountability for any ICE officer who broke the law," the congressman wrote in his post on X. "Over and over, ICE has shot people and then lied about what happened. We can see the lies with our own eyes. We will demand truth, transparency and accountability."
"Just like Americans have from Minneapolis to Houston, Austinites will speak out peacefully against this deadly mass deportation machine. ICE has been terrorizing our country for far too long. We will not be silent," the congressman added in a second post.
Texas state Representative Vikki Goodwin, the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, wrote on X that "another ICE-related shooting" had occurred in North Austin. She added that Austin police were on the scene for traffic control.
Sunday's shooting is one of at least a dozen committed by federal agents since President Donald Trump took office for his second term in 2025.
