(Screen grab) An emergency rescue was prompted after a man became trapped about three metres underground by a landslide in Soi Pridi Banomyong 14 off Sukhumvit 71 in Bangkok on Thursday evening.
The Rama 199 radio centre received a report of the landslide via the 199 emergency hotline at 6.47pm on Oct 1. The incident occurred in Phra Khanong Nuea of Watthana district.
Firefighters and rescue workers from Phra Khanong Fire Station arrived at the scene at 7.02pm and found the man trapped beneath the debris. Rescue workers have been trying to free the unidentified individual.
According to reports, construction work by the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) had been under way at the site for about a month. Repeated flooding and drainage, combined with heavy rain earlier in the afternoon, were potential factors to the landslide.
