TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Manchester City has lodged an appeal against the Premier League's verdict of breaking the League's Financial Fair Play (FFP).

As reported on the club's official website on Friday, Manchester City confirmed that they had filed an appeal on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. local time.

The statement said the club has filed a "comprehensive appeal" against the Premier League Commission's opinion regarding the Premier League's disciplinary matter.

"The Club’s firm position is that, on multiple grounds, the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe," the official statement read.

Manchester City maintains its innocence of the charges brought by the Premier League, and that there is strong, irrefutable evidence to support the Club's position in the case.

The Club emphasized that it will continue to respect the legal process and that it is limited in its ability to make further statements until the entire process is complete.

Previously, the Premier League issued a statement stating that Manchester City was guilty of breaching the Premier League's financial rules, after an independent commission found serious violations over a nine-season period.

The statement also stated that Manchester City was also found guilty of most of the charges related to the club's failure to cooperate with the League's investigation.

Citing DW, it was previously alleged that City drawn up "sham contracts" as well as "relying on sham agreements to artificially inflate the club's revenues and reduce its costs." According to the commission's report, the contracts were used to inflate the club's revenue up to  £900 million (€1.05 billion) over the period between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.
